Why do we wear rosemary on Anzac Day?

Since ancient times, rosemary has been associated with strengthening memory. Perhaps for this reason, the aromatic herb became a powerful symbol of fidelity and remembrance throughout literature and folklore.

In Australia, sprigs of rosemary are traditionally worn on Anzac Day and sometimes on Remembrance Day as a quiet tribute to those who have served. These sprigs are often handed out by Legacy and the RSL, continuing a long-standing tradition of honour and respect.

Rosemary holds particular significance for Australians because it grows wild on the Gallipoli peninsula, where Australian troops first landed nearly 110 years ago, on 25 April 1915. Its presence there has forever linked the humble herb with the spirit of remembrance.

Our Commemorative Plaques

Local Diggers WW1 plaques.

It has taken a lot of after hours work, but we have completed the plaques of WW1 Diggers who never came home. A few of the individuals are in addition to the names on our local war memorials.
