Since 2007 the Maudsland community has hosted a successful Dawn Service at the Coomera Queensland Country Women’s Association Hall, Oxenford. Unfortunately, due to concerns over the size of the event, it was decided to find an alternative location for the Maudsland ANZAC Day Service.
The relocation was announced by local veteran and dawn service Master of Ceremonies Geoff Benson. Geoff has taken the service from just a few locals back in 2007 to the great success it is today.
The Coomera River Valley community has deep connections to our ANZAC heritage. This is especially so for our servicemen, women and their families who pay homage to fallen comrades and loved ones at our Memorials on ANZAC and Remembrance Day.
After much community consultation, and with the assistance of local councillors Cr Peter Young and Cr Naomi Fowler, a suitable location with adequate parking and size was found at 542 Maudsland Road, Maudsland. A decision was made to see if Cliff Bird Park was available as it met many of the criteria to host the ANZAC Day event.
In July 2024, Mark Boothman MP, at the request of the local community contacted the Department of Resources (as land owner) seeking permission to build a War Memorial at this location. to which the former Minister for Resources Scott Stewart replied he and his department had no objections.
It was on the 17th of October 2024 an announcement was made that the incoming Crisafulli Government would pledge $500,000 towards a new War Memorial at Cliff Bird Park and enhancements to the Upper Coomera (Tallowwood) Park Memorial.
On the 25th April 2025 the inaugural Dawn Service was held at the new location of Cliff Bird Park. Although the weather was not the best that morning the turn out and support from residents was.
Planning is now underway for the design of the new permanent memorial at Cliff Bird Park.
Thank you to Geoff Benson, the Helensvale Lions Club and Guanaba Rural Fire Brigade for supporting the Maudsland ANZAC Day Service.
